A Day In The Life

Of a twin mom + 1.
Every now and then we have to sit back and look at our day.
Why does it get chaotic?
I sat down this weekend and edited and adjusted the Reward Board.
This is what I came up with and boy oh' boy it started working immediately!
The girls are so excited to earn stickers and stars.
With most three year olds our issues right now are fresh talk, sharing, manners, and listening.
Someone said to me, or I read, make a big deal about the good, not the bad.
Of course we talk and have time out if they have bad behaviour, but putting a big sparkly star up for chores completed and good behavior is very motivating for them.
Have you ever had to put 3 toddlers in a time out? They can't share a time out stool. They can't even be in the same room for that matter.
It turns into me standing in the middle of the kitchen. Edie on the stool, Reagan sitting on the rug facing the door, and Aubrey sitting on the stairs. No one can see each other, and we make it through the 2 minute time out for Edie and 3 minute time out for the twins.
Thankfully with the new schedule, we have not had a time out trifecta in a couple of days.

Again, it's been a while. Sorry about that.
Not to much has been going on, lots of little needy girls to tend to and I have had a bad case of bronchitis. I haven't taken out the camera to much until today. I got some great shots of the kids outside. They needed a good dose of fresh air, as did I, it was nice to take a big deep breath in.
So here is the three year old checklist for those of you with wee-ones. Don't forget in this house all noted items are...
TIMES TWO!!!
  • three year olds do the opposite of what you tell them to?
  • three year olds have selective hearing?
  • three year olds eat ALL THE TIME
  • three year olds start to try and sneak down the stairs
  • three year olds are pretty smart little people!!
  • three year olds go through a 'talking back' phase?
  • twins or siblings pick something different than what the other one is eating, drinking, wearing, watching, listening to, playing with?
  • twins or siblings fight over the same game, drink, shirt, show, song?
  • three year olds have absolute and complete melt downs in the blink of an eye?
  • three year olds want to change their clothes constantly?
  • three year olds will shake a full bottle of baby powder in the living room when you take a 3 min shower?
  • three year olds have to mention when you have a pimple?
  • three year olds think they are the boss?

MeMe, Thank you for the cheek/neck warmers. They make a huge difference!!
I don't know if all of you know this but Aubrey had a little frost nip on her cheeks a couple of weeks back and we have not ventured out since. She got these white waxy splotches on her cheeks and her face got a little swollen. We home remedied and she didn't blister. But as most of you DO know, she has super sensitive. Her cheeks did not like being cold, therefore cheek warmers.

Snow Buddies

It's been a while since we've been outside. They needed some fresh air as did I.

Edie was out there too, she spent a good amount of time trying to get on her feet. She got the hang of it after a while of waddling.

So The Lock Broke On The Freezer....

Caught in the act.
Helping herself to some frozen green beans...

Followed by a time out...

Followed by this face, when I told her 'no,no'.
She was saying 'ssssssss' her sweet little way of almost saying sorry.

Family Fun

Todd and I took the kids candle pin bowling on Saturday. We went to lunch at Ollie's and then over to King Lanes.
It was a blast.
Of course they thought over hand was the correct way to bowl. It turned out to be a great lesson of patience, and waiting your turn so every one could have fun.
Reagan had the diaper roll, as her roll of choice, she loved watching the ball roll....slowly.....slowly....down to the pins and knock them down.
Aubrey was all about get the ball, roll it, get another ball roll it, quick quick.
Edie was hilarious! She knew when it was her turn and she would get a ball and do her heeee heeee laugh all the way up to the line and just kind of drop it straight down, thank heavens her toes did not get in the way!!!! She would do her arm swing and skip back to get another ball. She raises her elbows and makes fists and twists side to side as she is walking. We made it almost through a whole string before they got exhausted. They did great. Aubrey scored a 64 and Reagan and Edie tied at 62. Great Job!!! We will definitely go again! Sorry no pics to busy chasing them out of the other lanes, and running to the bathroom every 10 minutes!!

Just Because...

Sleep When You Can...

...and where you can.
We had just picked the kids up from MeMe and Grampy's and she was awake when I sat her here. I ran out to bring in the groceries. When I came back she was out. She must of been cozy by the fire and super tired.

HUH?

Actually she isn't saying huh?
But it was a funny caption.
With the cold dry air, and the wood stoves going her skin has errupted with her usual pastches of eczema. As she likes to say,
'I'm always 'scratching those itches.'

Carpet Choice

This is what we chose for the basement. It looks great!!!

Get Organized

There has been alot of organizing around here lately.
Yes, it was part of my New Years Resolutions but, we've also been housebound, because of these relentless germs. That has given me a ton of time to sit and go through boxes, and boxes of tiny, tiny toys. We are getting ready to move our toys downstairs why not start out with them organized.

Toddler Takedown

OH, a day in the life...
Most of you may remember that when the twins turned about 8 months old they started having a behavior I simply called:
'Baby Brawls'.
A simple quarrel between two babies of the same age wanting to do the same thing with the same toy at the same time. There of course would be duplicate of EVERY toy in our house, but for a couple of seconds they both wanted the same one, and the all out baby brawl would start.
Sure, sure, we talked about sharing or diverting the topic of the toy in question.
That phase soon passed,
or so I thought
We were in Target the other day....
We have a routine. You have to with 3 little ones the same age....
wanting to do the same thing.....
at the same time....
You know where this is going.
So there we were walking down the isle of Target.
Usually Ray is on my right and Aubrey is on my left each with a hand on the buggy, Edie buckled up for safety in the little built in seat. Aubrey, (who has been on a 'I'm the boss' kick) decided she wanted to switch sides and hopped over to Reagans side of the buggy.
Reagan is a creature of habit, and wanted NOTHING to do with that and literally hopped on her sisters back and took her down in the middle of the isle, growling and tackling it was harsh, and mean and I was beside myself.
All hell broke loose.
I peeled one off the other one little hand grabbing for the same side of the carriage, then one is running that way to get away from the other one, then they double back around with the other one being chased now.
Edie is crying because they are crying, I'm trying to use a steady calm tone.
I grabbed a little hand in each of mine dumped out my merchandise,
we marched out to the parking lot.
I was Sooooooo embarrassed!!! I talked to them about the unacceptable behaviour, they lost their Diego privilege for the day. We rode in silence. We got to Mt Dearborn and Ray finally asked, you still upset mama? I said yes, they both apologized.
BUT OH MY GOSH!!!!!

Feeling Better

When I take the camera out and they hide, I know they don't feel well.
When I take the camera out and they get goofy, I know they are feeling much better!

My girls and Todd have been battling a bug for a while now. We got some new medicine and it seems to be doing the trick, finally getting some rest!!

Boo-boo Face

Along with an ear infection and a nasty cold, Aubrey fell off the step stool (again). She got a bloody nose and split her lips.
She and I decided it's time to find a safer step stool.
She is still all smiles even with a boo-boo face.
